‘Toilet : Ek Prem Katha’ Is A Satirical Love Story With A Powerful Social Message
Toilet: Ek Prem Katha is an upcoming love story with a satirical flavour Indian Hindi-language film directed by Shree Narayan Singh. Co-produced by Akshay Kumar and Neeraj Pandey, the film will star Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar in the lead roles, with Anupam Kher, and Sana Khan in supporting roles. The film is written by Sidhharth and Garima. Akshay, 49, stars as Keshav, a simple person while Bhumi, 27, plays Jaya, a progressive thinker.
The film is a satirical comedy film in support of Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a governmental campaign to improve the sanitation conditions in India, with emphasis on the eradication of open defecation in public areas, especially in the rural areas of India.
Keshav and Jaya are from two villages near Mathura, where at least 80% of households are without any access to a lavatories Keshav falls in love with Jaya and the duo get married. Later, Jaya is introduced to the ‘lota party’ (a group of women who defecate in the open), she retaliates and eventually leaves her husband’s home. Keshav too supports his wife’s cause and tries to change the mindset of his father and other people of his village. Both of them together take up the challenge of building toilets.
